Historical Review of the Participation and Defensive Activities of Female Companions in Battles

Abstract

During the era of the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), just as men participated in jihad and battles, women also went to war. Generally, women would go to serve the warriors, but there were many instances where the need for jihad arose, and they actively participated in combat and defended themselves. There are numerous accounts of female companions (Sahabiyat) participating in battles with great bravery and performing jihad. In modern times, the participation of women in various fields and institutions cannot be overlooked. Their role is considered essential in sectors such as the military, police, intelligence, and many other similar institutions. Just as women's involvement is deemed necessary in these modern fields, it cannot be ignored in the context of jihad either. This research aims to clarify that the female companions took part in battles and expeditions, defending not only themselves but also their country and community.
