Abstract

This research endeavors to deepen our understanding of the phenomenon of consonant substitution, as articulated by Imam Al-Akbari in his seminal work, "Al-Tibyan fi Al-Arab Al-Qur’an." In this pursuit, the study aims to rectify certain interpretations that have persisted since antiquity through the lens of advancements in phonology. The evolving field of phonology, influenced by progress in various disciplines, has played a crucial role in refining these interpretations and providing a contemporary perspective on linguistic phenomena. The significance of consonant substitution becomes evident as a striking linguistic occurrence within the Arabic language. This phenomenon is not confined to a singular manifestation but finds its expression in various dialects, notably the Anana and Al-Fafha dialects. Moreover, its presence resonates in the Holy Qur’an, particularly in readings that deviate from the Quraish dialect – the original dialect in which the Qur’an was revealed. This research embarks on the exploration of consonant substitution, aiming to unravel its intricacies and nuances, examining its manifestations not only in linguistic phenomena but also within the context of Quranic readings. The study recognizes the dynamic nature of language and the influence of historical context on linguistic evolution. By delving into consonant substitution, the research seeks to bridge the gap between classical interpretations and contemporary linguistic insights. Through this comprehensive exploration, it aspires to contribute significantly to a more nuanced understanding of the Arabic language and its historical interpretations, offering a valuable perspective for scholars, linguists, and enthusiasts alike.
