Critical analysis of Tafseer "Mafātīḥ al Ghaib” by Imām Rāzī

Abstract

The abundance of Sciences and their publications are so inimaginable that it can only be said about them that it is a far cry to discover the depth of this river. Exegetics is one of the knowledge which was initiated in the era of expositor of the Holy Quran. The Companions of the Prophet did not show any audacity in this regard as he himself was the custodian of the task. But after the departure of the Holy Prophet it was inevitable to get the information in the light of his sittings or company. Tabieen made full use of the explanatory exegetical sayings of the Companions of the Holy Prophet. There were high level interprets within Hijaz and out of Hijaz. Some of the commentaries written by the Taabieen and Mutakhirin gained great popularity and even still serve as a valuable treasure for the readers of exegetics. Fakhar Ud din Razi's interpretation is one of special importance among them.  In the article under reviews, the merits and demerits of Mafatih Ul Ghaib have been reviewed in details. It's authorship was started by the famous scholar and theologian Imam Muhammad Fakhar Ud Din Razi(544 AH-606 AH). This Tafsir is generally known as "Tafsir Kabir" but Imam Sahib himself named it "Mafatih Al Ghaib".
